Lead line pulling system

  • The lead line, also known as a pilot line, is pulled by the FulcrumAir E2500 Drone
  • Each robotic tensioning arm holds 2,650 ft/800 m of 2mm pilot line

  • Easily deploy 10 pulls/system/day

  • Perfect for quick deployment and in any type of terrain – from residential and commercial to remote and hazardous terrain, including over wetlands, water, mountains, valleys, etc.

  • Light footprint and virtually no land disturbance, the robotic tensioning arm is mounted to a truck bed and remotely operated

Pulling lead line in any terrain - safely

The FulcrumAir Lead Line Pulling System is a fast, safe and precise aerial stringing solution for overhead power line construction. Using the FulcrumAir E2500 UAV, a 2 mm pilot line is flown between structures and connected to the customer’s stringing rope, eliminating the need to move conventional pulling equipment or personnel across the terrain below. Each system carries up to 2,650 feet (800 meters) of pilot line and can complete approximately 10 pulls per day. The pilot line can be deployed over water, wetlands, valleys, mountains and other remote or difficult-to-access terrain. Its compact footprint also makes the system well suited to residential, commercial and environmentally sensitive areas where minimizing access, disruption and ground disturbance is essential.

A truck-mounted FulcrumAir Robotic Line Tensioner maintains precise, controlled tension throughout the operation. Once the pilot line reaches the final structure, it is connected to the customer-provided stringing rope and used to complete the return pull.

With simple mobilization and no need to establish a continuous ground path between structures, the Lead Line Pulling System reduces site complexity and limits the impact on surrounding land, infrastructure, and communities. It gives electrical utilities around the world an efficient alternative for transmission and distribution line stringing projects in challenging environments.

Process

1. Prepare

Crews establish bucket or basket work positions at the starting and ending structures. The FulcrumAir Robotic Line Tensioner is mounted in a truck bed at the launch location, and a lightweight 2 mm pilot line is connected between the tensioner and the E2500 UAV.

The compact system is easy to mobilize and requires minimal ground access, helping reduce disruption in remote, residential, commercial and environmentally sensitive locations.

2. Fly the pilot line

The E2500 UAV carries the tension-controlled pilot line from the launch site to the first structure, where it is guided through a lineman-assisted attachment. The UAV then flies the pilot line across the span to the final structure.

Each system provides up to 2,650 feet (800 meters) of pilot line, enabling aerial deployment across water, wetlands, valleys, mountains and other obstacles without requiring crews or equipment to cross the terrain below.

3. Move on

At the final structure, the 2 mm pilot line is connected to the customer-provided stringing rope. The remotely operated FulcrumAir Robotic Line Tensioner then completes the controlled return pull.

The system can perform approximately 10 pulls per day, helping line crews advance overhead transmission and distribution stringing projects safely, precisely and efficiently.
