Marker Ball LineFly™

  • Marker Ball LineFlys™ are flown to the line by the FulcrumAir X2500 Drone
  • Safest, most accurate way to install marker balls – also known as Aviation Warning Marker (AWM) Balls – on overhead transmission power lines

  • ZERO lost time incidents

  • Consistent, precise, exact robotic installations

  • Installs approximately 30 Sphera® marker balls/robot/day

  • Easily deploy additional robots for greater productivity

  • 2 km coverage/launch site

  • Approximately 95% less carbon emissions than helicopter install, and no land disturbance or erosion

  • No power outage required; robotic tools can operate on energized systems in most cases

  • Wire slope capable, unlike helicopters

  • Visual inspection reports available

Removing highly hazardous, tedious installation for good

Flown directly to overhead transmission lines by the FulcrumAir X2500 UAV, the Marker Ball LineFly™ robot installs Mosdorfer Sphera® Marker Balls with consistent, precise placement. Also known as Aircraft Warning Marker (AWM) balls, these highly visible spheres help pilots identify power lines in areas with frequent aviation traffic and where conductors may be difficult to see.

The Marker Ball LineFly™ provides a safer, more accurate alternative to conventional helicopter-based marker ball installation. By removing personnel and helicopters from tedious, close-proximity installation work, the system reduces operational risk, project complexity, cost, and environmental impact. The robotic solution has achieved zero lost-time incidents and can install approximately 30 Sphera® marker balls per robot per day. Additional robots can be deployed to increase productivity for larger transmission line marking projects.

Operating across approximately 2 km from each launch site, the Marker Ball LineFly™ can work on sloped conductors and, in most cases, energized transmission lines without requiring a planned power outage. Compared with helicopter installation, the system produces approximately 95% fewer carbon emissions while avoiding land disturbance and erosion. Optional visual inspection reports provide utilities and power line contractors with clear documentation of installation quality and project completion.

Installation process

1. Deploy

The FulcrumAir X2500 UAV carries the Marker Ball LineFly™ robotic tool from the launch site to the designated location on the overhead transmission line.

2. Install

Once positioned, the Marker Ball LineFly™ precisely installs one Sphera® Aircraft Warning Marker ball on the conductor. Each robot can complete approximately 30 marker ball installations per day.

3. Move on

After the marker ball is secured, the X2500 UAV returns the LineFly™ to the launch site for reloading. The deploy-install-reload cycle continues until the required section of transmission line is marked. Additional robotic tools can be deployed to increase productivity and support larger projects.
