Making spacer installs consistently safe, precise & efficient
The FulcrumAir Spacer LineFly™ and Spacer LineSpider™ provide two flexible robotic platforms for installing twin spacers, also known as dual spacers or conductor spacers, on overhead transmission power lines. The Spacer LineFly™ is carried directly to the conductors by the FulcrumAir E2500 UAV, while the Spacer LineSpider™ can be manually deployed using a bucket truck, crane, hoist or pulley system. Both robotic platforms install approximately 180 PLP Cushion Grip® twin spacers per robot per day, with consistent torque, precise GPS-based placement and repeatable 90-degree orientation. Additional robots can be deployed to increase productivity on larger transmission line construction projects.
The system allows skilled line crews to clip in and continue advancing along the transmission line while FulcrumAir’s robots complete spacer installation behind them. Eliminating the need for crews to return and perform this work manually can complete the spacer-installation phase 3-7 times faster, helping operations teams move to the next project phase sooner.
The Spacer LineFly™ can operate across approximately 2 km from each UAV launch site and produces approximately 95% fewer carbon emissions than helicopter installation, with no associated land disturbance or erosion. The Spacer LineSpider™ installs spacers on both sides of each structure span from a single setup location, significantly reducing equipment repositioning, setup time and ground impact.
With zero lost-time incidents, wire-slope capability and the ability to operate on energized systems, both platforms offer electrical utilities and transmission line contractors a safer, faster and more accurate approach to conductor spacer installation. RTK GPS location records and installation torque reports are also available to document placement and installation quality.

Cushion Grip® Twin Spacers
Installation process
1. Deploy
Spacer LineFly™: The FulcrumAir E2500 UAV carries the Spacer LineFly™ robotic tool to the designated twin conductors. This aerial deployment method provides access across approximately 2 km from each launch site without requiring helicopter support or ground access along the full right-of-way.
Spacer LineSpider™: This robot is placed directly onto the twin conductors using a bucket truck, crane, hoist or pulley system. This deployment option is ideal when aerial-lift equipment or a crane is already on site. From each setup location, the robot can install spacers on both sides of the structure span.
2. Install
The Spacer LineFly™ carries up to 3 twin spacers per deployment, while Spacer LineSpider™ carries up to 9. Each robot travels along the conductors and installs the spacers at designated RTK GPS locations with consistent torque and precise 90-degree orientation.
Both platforms can install approximately 180 Cushion Grip® twin spacers per robot per day. Installation location and torque-value reports are available for quality assurance and project documentation.
3. advance to the next phase
After installing its spacer capacity, the robot is returned to the deployment point and reloaded. The deploy-install-reload cycle continues as the line crew advances, allowing spacer work to be completed efficiently behind them.
Additional robots can be deployed to scale production. By removing a separate manual spacer-installation pass and implementing robotic systems, operations can complete this phase of the construction process 3-7 times faster – helping crews advance to their next project phase sooner, and safer.
